Can't login, can't register...
Augh!!!!!
I registered again and got the e-mail but can't put it in because I can't login.. And it seems I can't login because I'm not registered *-)
I can't login, it never asks me for password, always puts me as guest and never lets me access my preferences, the "My Settings" button is grayed ...

Weird!. I don't have a dedicated host but I can still install programs. All you need is 1 MySQL database, FTP access and access to chmod (permissions). phpBB can be obtained for free from phpBB.com. Why don't you double check with your host ?

I would suggest not reinventing the wheel. There is good free software available for Forums, I recommend phpBB but there are others that are good too. I have maintained both phpBB and vBulletin (not free) forums and can help you with setup if you need. Here are some of my forums:
